an essential principle for navigating a neurodiverse world:
Hanlon's razor is an adage, or rule of thumb, that states:
“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity or carelessness.”
circling back to an abandoned idea a couple years ago..
(after getting carried away in midjourney)
if people = architecture
our modern tendency: to demand all lights on, 24/7
we judge a dark window as haunted (tho a lit one can just be a false facade)
follow this logic, we ignore diverse (cognitive) architectures:
- adhd mind: workshops diverting power for breakthroughs
- autistic mind: observatories needing darkness to see
- (my building has questionable wiring)
forcing an observatory to stay lit defies its very purpose & presence.
so we need a better building code/signal
but for now, a cognitive "razor” inspired by hanlon's:
"never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by cognitive overload, executive dysfunction, or a difference in communication architecture."
assume overload, not hostility..
choose grace over suspicion🙏🏼
