people ask what my work is about..
fair question (tough.. still workshopping)
(*pls note: i might repeat myself but redundancy is god 🙏🏼)
i started out surface-level; classic 2nd diamond,
self-proclaimed talent: “making shit look good”
had to backtrack. hard.
realized i was missing a first diamond:
the 'root square,’ the crucial “why” behind any “what” or “how”
(kinda need roots before you can reliably fruit)
so, for your sanity (and mine):
the timeless double diamond framework
1st ◇ (implicate order, red ink): inner world, discovery, understanding self ⤑ yields clarity.
2nd ◇ (explicate order, black ink): outer world, development, action in reality ⤑ yields coherence.
(parallel to 'squaring the circle' ◯ ⤑ ◇)
but then there's now.
where tech is the air we breathe,
and we can theoretically be anyone, do anything...
(writer/artist/creator/designer/jack of all trades/master of existential dread,etc.)
we must be agile/flexible in our thinking.
the move is reverse symmetry by "circling the square" ◇ ⤑ ◯
zoom out. use the big picture, the context/environment (◯, unity)
to define the core value (‘Ⅹ’ what truly endures..)
hold the rest in periphery
find the essential when the ground won't stop shifting
this my framework for sanity.
(testing daily 🙏🏼)
“A calm technology will move easily from the periphery of our attention, to the center, and back. This is fundamentally encalming for two reasons. First by placing things in the periphery, we are able to attune to many. More things than we could if everything had to be at the center. Things in the periphery are attuned to by the large proportion of our brains devoted to peripheral (sensory) processing. Thus, the periphery is informing without overburdening. Second, by recentering something formerly in the periphery, we take control of it. “ — Don Norman, The Design of Future Things
